Toni was born in Dublin, and educated at Alexandra College. She came to London in 1966 to train as a nurse before studying at Goldsmith University of London.
Elected to Croydon Council in 1986, representing Woodside and Selhurst, Toni has served on the Labour front Bench both in the majority group and opposition.
She served as Mayor twice the first time being 1997-1998 and again in 2017-2018. A founding member of Councillor Toni Letts OBE
the Croydon Family Justice Centre she has spoken on domestic violence at the UN in New York, as well as London, Dublin, France, Holland, Italy, Spain and South Africa.
She was given an OBE in 1994 for her services to homeless men and women and the community.
Toni was employed as CEO of South London YMCA merging Croydon YMCA with Wimbledon Lambert, Lewisham, Southwark, Earls Court YMCA. She also served as Chair of Croydon Health Authority Board, Chair of Croydon Primary Care Trust and Chair of London Specialist Commissioning Board.
Currently Chair of Croydon Planning Committee and Croydon’s Business Champion together a role of Military Champion.
