Steve Phaure is the Chief Executive of Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA), the umbrella body for Croydon’s voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCS).
As well as providing capacity building, community empowerment and fundraising advice, CVA runs the Volunteer Centre Croydon and a host of VCS accommodation centres, including CVA’s headquarters on London Road.
Steve is a proud Croydonian, having grown up and gone to school in the borough and under his management CVA has developed a national reputation for its practice of asset based community development. Celebrating Croydon’s greatest strength – the diversity, vibrancy and enterprise of its local communities – is at the heart of CVA’s mission and Steve counts the annual London Road Carnival and the recently launched CVA Community Showcase as two of the most important dates in CVA’s calendar.
Steve also takes great pride in Croydon’s record of partnership working, with its VCS recognised as a key player in transformational programmes tackling health inequalities and violence reduction. Steve has just partnered with Croydon Council on a successful bid bringing schools, families and communities together in supporting vulnerable young people at risk of involvement in crime. He looks forward to it cementing Croydon’s national reputation for innovation and early intervention.
